The novel begins with an unusual premise: Leila Tequila, a sex worker living in Istanbul, has just died. Although her heart has stopped, her brain remains active for 10 minutes and 38 seconds.
During those final moments, memories from her life resurface—her childhood, family, first loves, traumas, friendships, and the events that led her to Istanbul. Through these memories, readers learn about the hardships she faced, including abuse, discrimination, and social exclusion.
The story also focuses on the deep bonds between Leila and her group of close friends—people who, like her, have been marginalized by society. After her death, these friends come together to honor her and ensure she receives the dignity and respect she deserves.
