This novel is the third novel published by the Afghani-American writer Khaled Hosseini. It was published in 2013 AD. In this novel, Khaled al-Husseini appeared in a style different from his style in the previous novels, as he did not give the starring role to any of the characters in his novel, but rather his novel was similar to The short stories he made the nine chapters of the novel different from each other and narrated from different personal points of view, and these chapters were based on the relationship between the ten-year-old Abdullah and his younger sister Pari, who was three years old, these two children whose father decided to sell them to a couple who do not have children in The Afghan capital, Kabul, with this event, Khaled Hosseini linked all of his novel.
